Geriatrics
In the second half of the first year, residents have a three-week rotation in Geriatrics that consists of a wide breadth of experience in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Residents rotate within geriatric clinics, inpatient trauma service, outpatient and inpatient palliative care, and hospice. Residents work closely with a specialists at these different sites and provide direct care to the patients. Residents receive training in transitions of care for our most medically complex patients as they move between inpatient and outpatient settings.
Goals and Objectives:
- Residents will learn to provide comprehensive care to older adults with complex medical and psychosocial issues.
- Residents will work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary medial and community team.
- Residents will learn how to recognize the vulnerable elderly patient and how to maximize community resources to maximize health, safety, functionality and well- being.
